This week we publish an <a title=\"Click here to see article\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pnas.org\/content\/early\/2009\/01\/21\/0811699106\" target=\"_blank\">article in PNAS<\/a>, which shows a possible link between abnormal brainwaves in patients with <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alzheimer%27s_disease\" target=\"_blank\">Alzheimer\u2019s disease<\/a> and a decline in cognitive function.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.poil.dk\/s\/article-altered-temporal-correlations-in-parietal-alpha-and-prefrontal-theta-oscillations-in-early-stage-alzheimer-disease\/126\" target=\"_self\">Click here<\/a> for the abstract of this article and more information<\/p>\n<p><span> <\/span>We measured the brainwaves of patients with Alzheimer\u2019s disease and healthy subjects using a non-invasive method called magnetoencephalography (MEG &#8211; a method almost similar to electroencephalography\u00a0(EEG)) . We found that the brainwaves in patients with Alzheimer\u2019s disease were less stable and had weaker correlations over time compared to healthy subjects.<\/p>\n<p>Our results shows that (1) non-invasively measured biomarkers of abnormal brainwave can identify certain aspects of Alzheimer\u2019s disease, and (2) brainwaves might give us a better understanding of Alzheimer\u2019s disease and brain function in general.<\/p>\n<p>Our article has been released in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pnas.org\/content\/early\/recent\" target=\"_blank\">PNAS early edition<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pnas.org\/content\/early\/2009\/01\/21\/0811699106\" target=\"_blank\">click here to see article<\/a>.
